During June 2009 I received the offer of a lifetime from Tim Gardener, a Pilot, who seems to have flow everything flyable. He offered to take me and a friend on a flight around the Portsdown area. The deal being that I gave him an aerial guided tour, and in return I got to take as many photos as I wanted. I didn't spend too much time making my mind up.

Thanks Tim for making such a huge contribution to this website.

Pre Flight Checks

Bob Hunt, the Portsdown Tunnels author, looks on as Tim completes the pre-flight checks. The aircraft is a Cessna C172-N. It was manufactured in Reims, France in 1979, and is operated by Hampshire Aero Club at Goodwood Aerodrome. Tim has flown from airfields all over the world, but regards Goodwood as the best there is.

Sinah Warren - Hayling Island

Sinah Warren, Hayling Island with Langstone Harbour and Portsmouth in the background. This whole area contained the most successful 'Q-Site' of WWII.

Farlington Marshes

Over Langstone Harbour looking southwest with Farlington Marshes in the mid-ground, and Portsmouth in the background. The islands in the foreground are: (left) Baker's Island, (top right) North Binness, (bottom right) Long Island. There are, what looks like, WWII bomb craters' on some of them, but I would have thought these would have been eroded by now. Again this whole area was used as a WWII aerial bombing decoy site.

Farlington Marshes - south east

The southeast corner of Farlington Marshes. This was an area of intense 'Q-Site' activity. The spit reaching out at the top right is where the old Oyster Catchers House was located.

Fort Monkton

Fort Monkton on the south eastern tip of Gosport. Can't say anymore. I'm afraid it's all terribly hush hush old boy!

Fort Gilkicker

Fort Gilkicker at the southern tip of Gosport.
